 Meet Your Instructor

Curtis was born and raised in Miami, FL, where he learned, from his father, to spearfish and free dive for lobster. He attended the Florida State University and received his Bachelors degree in English Education, despite having attended every home football game (GO NOLES!).

After graduating he went on to teach middle school for three years before getting antsy, looking for a change of scenery and hoping to follow his passion for writing.

Why This is Going to be an amazing writing course.

In 2008 Curtis received the Presidential Fellowship from Emerson College in Boston to study Creative Writing. While pursuing his MFA he taught College Writing courses and worked as an editor for the literary magazine redivider: A Journal of New Literature and Art, and in his last year he founded the online journal of poetry and art, www.interrupture.com.

Since then he has taught high school, at a community college, and currently teaches at an inner-city charter school in Boston.

When he’s not @ the pre-college summer program.

Curtis misses the warm beaches of South Florida, but still surfs, when possible, in his free time. He thoroughly enjoys traveling, and has surfed in Panama, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. During the summer of 2006 he backpacked through Europe solo for five weeks. He is very excited to be spending part of his summer in DC, teaching Creative Writing and discussing his favorite past-time, college.
