You should know by now Blueprint prides itself on being three things. Personal. Innovative. And FUN! While learning can be fun (our instructors prove that every day!), sometimes you just need to get out of the classroom and off campus. So, every Friday, we’ll be taking a moment to tell you about our awesome trips! Each week we’ll highlight a different campus and share the places students will be going on our Wednesday and Super Sunday Field Trips.
You’re on campus to get ready for college, but come on…you’re in sunny LA in the summertime! Trust us. You won’t just be looking longingly out your classroom window, wishing you were lounging on the beach, trying to catch a glimpse of a local celeb or enjoying a thrill ride or three. We understand that the college experience is more than just sitting in a classroom. UCLA is surrounded by a city full of educational opportunities, fun day trip options and the glitz and sparkle of Hollywood. Get ready to experience it all!
4th Of July – Block Party
Having only arrived at campus the day before, what better way to get to know your new friends than a Block Party at Grand Park for the 4th of July! Multiple stages with live music and performances from Kotolan, Jenny O., The Echo Park Project together with World Salsa Congress and food vendors onsite will keep you dancing, eating, and exploring this beautiful park until the spectacular fireworks start, becoming City Hall’s colorful backdrop.
1st Wednesday Roadtrip – Six Flags Magic Mountain
What summer would be complete without a trip to an amusement park? Six Flags Magic Mountain is a perfect place to take a study break and clear your head.
Do you love roller coasters? Test your bravery on Full Throttle, the world record setting, numero uno, tallest and fastest looping coaster. How about something ground breaking? The New Revolution Virtual Reality Coaster combines a coaster with the technology of virtual reality, creating a whole new way to experience the thrill.
Prefer to keep those toes planted firmly on the ground? Meet your favorite Justice League superhero or be astonished by the acrobatics of Kwerk. And a day at the amusement park wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of shopping and some great park food! Lots of options for everyone at Six Flags Magic Mountain, where you will be spending the entire day.
Sunday (Optional Trip) – Santa Monica Beach
You can’t be in Cali without spending some time lounging in the warm sand at Santa Monica Beach. It’s just 21 minutes away from the UCLA campus and a perfect place to relax. The three and a half miles of beach offers all the fun in the sun activates you can think of! Get sandy playing some beach volleyball or swim in the salty ocean. Perry’s at the Beach provides a perfect Cali café atmosphere for food and hanging out with school buddies for lunch. Take the time to visit the Arlington West temporary memorial near the Santa Monica Pier, erected in memoriam of U.S. military members who were causalities of the Iraq War. Feel like getting away from the sand for a bit? Wander to one of the four beach parks to chill on a bit of grass. This delightful day trip will wrap up with grub at Lamonica’s New York Pizza.
2nd Wednesday Roadtrip – Hollywood
The last roadtrip starts out in the educational realm, then shows you the classics of Hollywood! You’ll begin the day at one of your other education options in the area with a tour of the University of Southern California. Make sure you ask your tour guide about the USC marching band’s TWO platinum albums!
Speaking of music, the next stop for the day is at the Grammy Museum. Take a picture with a genuine Grammy award. Check out the collection of rare guitars, many owned by legendary musicians like John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix. Maybe learn about the art, fashion, media through artifacts from the Beatles era. The Grammy Museum is interactive, educational, and very fun. You’re bound to work up an appetite from four floors of awesomeness, so it’s off to Smashburger for lunch.
No trip to LA is complete without checking out one of the many studios. You’ll enjoy a tour of Sony Pictures Studios, taking pictures of the sets of some of your favorite TV shows! Maybe even spot a favorite celebrity or two. Time to wrap up the day with one of the most popular destinations in Hollywood: Madame Tussauds. Didn’t get to take a picture with your favorite star? The wax version is just as good! Even the president hangs out here. Dinner at Subway and that’s a wrap!
