You should know by now Blueprint prides itself on being three things. Personal. Innovative. And FUN! While learning can be fun (our instructors prove that every day!), sometimes you just need to get out of the classroom and off campus. So, every Friday, we’ll be taking a moment to tell you about our awesome trips! Each week we’ll highlight a different campus and share the places students will be going on our Wednesday and Super Sunday Field Trips.
While living on campus can be a lot of fun, sometimes you’re just going to need to get away! Located in the picturesque Lehigh Valley, Lehigh students have a wide variety of awesome off-campus activities to choose from in the surrounding area. Want some peace and tranquility? The beautiful rolling hills offer the perfect location for outdoor activities. Want the excitement of a big city? Philadelphia is located 50 miles away. And the Big Apple? Just 75 miles away!
1st Wednesday Roadtrip – Hershey Park
Get ready to visit the “Sweetest Place on Earth.” After a couple days on campus, we’re heading down to Hershey, PA for a day of rollercoasters and fun. With over 70 rides and attractions, including 13 roller coasters, 14 water rides, a large zoo with 5 up-close animal encounters and over 10 musical, dance and game shows, every student is bound to find something they love at Hershey Park.
Super Sunday (Optional Trip) – Lost River Caverns & Dutch Springs
Get ready to take an underground adventure through the Lost River Caverns. It’s the perfect way to beat the summer heat, since the cave stays a chilly 52°F all year. While there, you’ll take a 45 minute guided tour through the crystal formations of the limestone cave and get great views of crystal clear waters of the Lost River! Once you’ve taken a look around, we’ll be heading over to Roma for a slice of pizza. (No, not the city, just a nearby restaurant!)
And the day’s just getting started…spend your afternoon swimming and sunning at the lake. Dutch Springs has loads of huge inflatables that offer a wide variety of bouncing, sliding, and other activities. The Witbit water course, Icebergs, Saturn and Aqua Jump (A trampoline…on water!!) all await you. Check out all the Dutch Springs water attractions here. Not interested in water sports?
There’s plenty to do on land as well! Complete the ropes course, try out a little wall climbing, soak in the sun on a beach towel or challenge your new friends to a game of kick ball in the open field.
Once you’re completely worn out, we’ll grab some food and head back to campus for another week of learning and getting ready for college
2nd Wednesday Roadtrip – Philadelphia
We’ll start off our next Wednesday road trip by making the short drive to The City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and the (equally as important) Philadelphia Eagles and Philly Cheese Steak. Beginning at the Academy of Natural Sciences, you can hang out with the towering skeletons in Dinosaur Hall or marvel at the tropical butterfly garden. You’ll even get a chance to dig for and prep fossils in the hands-on exhibit.
Does all that exploring and discovering make you hungry? We’ll grab some grub at the delicious Shake Shack. If you have yet to experience their delicious burgers, fries and shakes, you’re in for a treat!
By the 2nd Wednesday, you’ve gotten to know Lehigh pretty well. See another college campus, as you tour University of Pennsylvania. Ranked #9 amongst American colleges and universities, UPenn offers a beautiful, green campus that is within walking distance to downtown Philly. It’s the best of both worlds.
After touring the campus, we’ll tour the city in style…aboard a Duck! The best way to experience the city by land and sea, you’ll see everything from the Liberty Bell and Love Park to the USS Olympia and Penn’s Landing. You’ll then end your day in the city at the renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art.
