Highest Paying College Majors : Making the Major Decision

For those finishing up their final year in high school, the decision of where to go to college is most likely, or soon to be, over. You can finally take a breath and have an answer to your Aunt Betty’s constant nagging, “So, have you decided yet?” You’ve made a huge, important decision. But, it is only the first of many. The next one you will begin to think about, and should have already started thinking about, is what you will major in.

Student Thinking About Money When Deciding a College Major

Weighing the options: passion vs. pay

College students (and future college students) can be broken down into three main categories when it comes to deciding on a college major. There are the ones that follow their hearts and there are the ones that follow the money…and then there are the general psych majors who just ran out of time to decide and ended up picking the most generalized, popular degree.

Psychology Camp: Pre-College Psychology @ UCLA

Ronnie LaGro : Food Lover, Runner, Ultimate Frisbee-er, Pre-College Psychology Instructor!

Ronnie1

Rocking the Free Shades

Ronnie earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2006. Following his desire to help those in need, Ronnie volunteered full-time in Chicago and New York serving homeless people.

After becoming a diehard fan of Chicago-style hot dogs (has to be Vienna Beef!) and Giordano’s Chicago-style pizza, Ronnie worked professionally with developmentally disabled youth, with foster youth, and at a locked psychiatric hospital. All these experiences spurred him on to pursue a Master of Social Work at the University of Southern California. He just completed his first year at USC and after earning his degree, Ronnie hopes to become a counselor for youth and young adults.

Stonehill Pre-College Psychology

Join us this summer for a great psychology camp at Stonehill College. Meet your Instructor Andrea!

Andrea2 Andrea holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. She was 1 of 3 in a class of over 800 to graduate with a perfect 4.0 GPA. After graduation, the Florida native returned to her hometown of Miami, Florida to be closer to family, friends and her soon-to-be husband, Sergio. She began work on her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in the Fall of 2012 at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale all while planning a wedding!

In addition to loving every minute of graduate study, Andrea loves to travel! She and her husband, Sergio, took 60 of their closest family and friends to Las Vegas in December to get hitched and love impromptu trips to Walt Disney World for the weekend. A self-proclaimed “foodie” Andrea loves to cook inventive things and spends hours surfing Food Network for fun recipes as well as hitting up some of the best-kept secrets of Miami restaurants.

After a great summer teaching science to 9th graders, Andrea knew that she had a passion for teaching and is excited to join Blueprint’s team, for the first time, this summer at Stonehill College’s psychology camp. She feels like psychology is an incredible subject with such a huge range of topics and interests and is ready to show her students just how amazing the subject can be!

Pre-College Creative Writing

GW Creative Writing for High School Students July 2013

Calling all creative writers! If you join Blueprint’s pre-college summer program at George Washington University this summer you can hone your skills with one of the best, Merridith Allen!

Merridith is a playwright, screenwriter, actress, martial artist, and
yogini, which potentially qualifies her for a Jane-of-all-trades…she
likes to think, anyway.  She is currently living in New York City, but
enjoys traveling around the world as much as she possibly can.
and is looking forward to leading intrepid writers in her creative writing class.

writing_picAs a writer, Merridith’s plays have seen productions at such venues as The
Manhattan Repertory Theatre, The Provincetown Theater, and The New Georges
Theatre space.  Her play, “The House of Fallen Snow” was a finalist at The
Strawberry One Act festival, and went on to become a film which has just
placed second in The Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition.  She writes a
fair amount of creative nonfiction and fiction, and likes to jump around
the country going to (and teaching at) as many literary festivals as
possible.
