UCLA Pre-College Psychology Instructor: About Cait Sleight

Get excited about UCLA because your pre-college summer program is led by Cait Sleight! Cait earned her B.A. in Psychology with a Research Concentration Track and specialization in Neuroscience at the University of Connecticut. After graduation, she traded her country living for a city life in Manhattan, working at Columbia University Medical Center in the Psychiatry Department.

Most people don’t know that most colleges outsource their meals to companies like sodexo, aramark – better known for their contracts with prisons and nursing homes – that’s right you could go from cradle to college to prison to nursing home being fed by the same billion dollar company. Gross?

Endowment Data 2013

Just this Tuesday NACUBO released its 2013 report of institutional financial integrity.

Overall, college endowments grew at a clip of 11% after suffering average losses last year.

Hey Team Stonehill, want to meet your Director of Residence Life? Say hey to Megan!

Megan has lived in many different parts of the country – she was born and raised in Chicago, went to college in San Francisco, and now lives in New York City.  After graduating from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s degree in Politics, she moved back to Chicago to teach as a corps member with the Teach For America program.

Megan Pic2Megan spent three years teaching prekindergarten in South Shore, the neighborhood where her mother (and Michelle Obama) grew up.  Realizing her dream to teach, Megan is now living in Manhattan, working on a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education at Teachers College – Columbia University.

Headed over to the summer program for high school students this year at Stonehill?
You’re in for a treat!

In this corner, and returning for round two, a real contender in our book ladies and gentlemen the Audacious Anna Akthar!!!

IMAG0398Anna is a proud native Texan, and currently a junior at what she considers to be the greatest school in the country — the University of Texas. (Hook ’em!)

She is currently studying General Education with future plans to teach at the elementary level, and eventually become a college prep counselor. Anna is currently interning at an elementary school in Austin, and it’s her favorite part of her day!

When she isn’t working, interning, or in classes, Anna loves spending time with her sorority sisters, cooking, rock climbing, kayaking, running, and buying pants. (She buys other clothes too, but mostly, pants.)

She’s a major animal lover, and loves tricking her family members into attending dog shows with her. Anna loves to dance, laugh, and has a hard time taking herself too seriously. She’s extremely excited about returning to Stonehill as an RA for the second year and is looking forward to getting to know the future campers!!!!

3 random facts about Anna are:
-She’s terrified of roaches.
-She loves cheese.
-She can quote almost every episode of King of the Hill in its entirety.

We’re over the moon that Renee is returning to Blueprint’s Pre-College Program in Pennsylvania this year!

Renee holds a Bachelors degree in Sociology from Stonehill College, where she spent the last four years debating what she was meant to do in life. With her sights shifting from social work to guidance counseling to higher education, she knows one thing: she loves the idea of students wanting to further themselves after high school and knows that college is a great way to do that. Thus, she’s so glad she found Blueprint last summer-which is a great outlet for her to express those motivations with like-minded guys and gals- and will be returning for her second summer, at Lehigh!

About Yesenia J. Moreno| Educator, Photographer, and Life-long Learner

Students joining Blueprint’s Pre-College Summer Program @ UCLA already have something to look forward to …. the coolest director on the planet!

Yesenia graduated with her Masters in Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in 2008, and immediately put her degree to work as a Bilingual Elementary Teacher at a New York Public School in Harlem.  Since graduating she remains dedicated to her studies by continuing to take courses at her Alma Mater in pedagogy and sociology.  Just this Spring of 2013, she enrolled in a course titled the Sociology of Urban Education, which sums up her professional passion.

Blueprint @ GW, meet your RA!


Laura just finished her 2nd year at the University of Connecticut as psychology major where she is one of the recipients of the university’s leadership scholarship. She hopes to pursue a career in clinical psychology and as a research assistant for an early autism detection study, she is getting a hands-on experience in her studies. Read more

About Hebatullah Issa – All round superstar and Creative Writing Extraordinaire!

Hebatullah earned a Bachelors degree in Journalism from The Pennsylvania State University, where she worked on the university’s newspaper, radio and TV staff as a reporter.  She began pursuing her love for writing during her semester studying abroad, in 2008, at the University of Jordan, where she took an Arab Women Writers course. She was assigned to write a short story in the voice of an Arab woman; it was then she stumbled upon inspiration and found her voice as a writer.
